Friday night with my boyfriends Jimmy, Dave, and Michael

Friday night…watching a DVR’d Jimmy Fallon, and he is playing a game with Kiera Knightly, DAVE MATTHEWS, and MICHAEL BUBLE. It’s just too many cute boys being entirely cute.

I love Friday nights…staying up later than normal, and knowing I can sleep in and have a slow morning tomorrow!!

And every day I am feeling better and better since being sick…and I am so happy about that.

I hope everybody enjoys their Saturday mornings!

Day after sick…

I don’t know about you, but when I have been sick for a more than a few days, and then a day comes where I am feeling better, I feel like I can conquer the world.
My alarm went off, and suddenly, birds were chirping, and my to do list was growing in my head.
There were so many things I was going to accomplish today, so many things I was going to clean, so many papers I was going to grade….

But, then reality happens.
I got about 40% of what I had planned to do today, but to give myself credit, my list was a little more than doable.

I did do these things:
Clean out my desk at school
Clean out my folders
Clean the kitchen
(It is worth mentioning, that since I was sick, chores like this aren’t completed regularly, so cleaning the kitchen actually required emptying the dishwasher, loading the dishwasher, emptying it, and then loading it again…that’s how messy the kitchen was.)
Organized paperwork
Did some paperwork that I’ve been putting off

And, I also cleaned out the coat closet at my school which is no small feat. The kids are going to be so surprised tomorrow, and also see some things that they were probably looking for that were piled on the floor.

Now, I am about to cook my husband dinner because he is working many of the next 10-12 days. And he doesn’t get home until after 8:00 tonight.

And then, I will probably go to bed.
I am tired.

What’s your least favorite chore?
Mine is putting away laundry.
YUK!

Especially pairing socks!
Have a great night!

Sick of sick

Sometimes, when you have been sick for a week and you haven’t slept in days, you need to have a Wendy’s Frosty for dinner.

20121205-182941.jpg

I went to the doctor today after school.
Z-pack
Neti Pot Kit and
Saline

Hopefully this equals a good night’s sleep.

Tomorrow is Thursday! Yay!
Maybe I will be better by the weekend so I can start exercising. I am ready!!

Later taters.

Happy Birthday, QB.

Today is the birthday of one of Beth FS’ and my favorites!
We have been fans for so long, and we are fans without shame, and believe us, people try to shame us. Harass us, laugh at us, we don’t care. We love QB* for life.

Anyway, Happy 31st Birthday, Britney Spears.

PinkisTheNewBlog did an awesome post, so I am just going to link it.

Beth and I started reading Pink Is the New Blog SO many years ago because he was an avid Britney fan and almost every entry started with a QB update, then went into other gossip. It’s where our love for Hollywood Gossip and blogs was first discovered.

In other news…

I am still sick, running a fever, and have been in my bed since the moment I walked in the door from school. My husband brought me dinner and tissues. Thank goodness for him.

20121203-183812.jpg

These tissues remind me of my Gramma Helman’s (my mom’s mom) house. She always had yellow, pink or green tissues.

Anyway, here’s hoping I get better tomorrow and don’t have to go to the doctor, like my mom and my niece.

*QB is our code name for Queen Britney. We started it to annoy Mr. FS.

Have a great Tuesday

wahhhh! i am sick.

Whenever I am sick, I always think of Forrest Gump saying, “cough due to cold.”
Because that is exactly what I have. I hate coughs.
I am a big baby with a cough and cold.
I go to the store and immediately stock up…

20121202-101146.jpg

And then I medicate, take vitamins, drink loads of water, and hope to make it a short illness!

It’s raining and I am going to sit on my duff and try to get better for school tomorrow.

Enjoy your Sunday!

grumps. and my love for coffee creamer. part deux.

I woke up this morning feeling rather grumpy.
I have started a cold.
I didn’t sleep well.
My stomach hurt….ummm. in a womanly way.
And today is the day I decided I needed to get back in control of eating and exercising since I’ve been on a downward spiral since Thanksgiving break.
I gained 5lbs back during this particular spiral.
Okay, 6.
I feel swollen. And gross. So, you’d think I would feel happy about today being the day to get back in control of eating and exercising.
But, my first day back after a food bender is always grumpy, and the second day back is always a happy place, and then the momentum keeps me going.
I used to let weeks like this ruin everything and just give up. But, in the last few years, I’ve learned to make eating healthy, and losing weight a lifestyle change – for real – not just saying it. Over the last year and a half I’ve lost 20 lbs that I refuse to gain back. Now, I am fighting to be down the next 10 lbs.
One day at a time, I s’pose.

On Saturday mornings, a majority of my calories are on coffee creamer, because it is the only day of the week I have more than one cup of coffee. I’ve mentioned my love of creamer before, but I just looked at all of the creamer in my refrigerator and realized I have more than I’ve ever had before. Here’s a picture of all of the creamers….
Full Disclosure: I almost didn’t post this because it is slightly embarrassing. HA HA. I will say I got most of them at a killer sale at Meijers and I had a coupon. And since they are made up of mostly chemicals, they last for-ev-ER.

20121201-091031.jpg

And here are the same creamers, but they’re ready for their close up…

20121201-091107.jpg

20121201-091116.jpg

20121201-091121.jpg

During the week, I use the fat free half and half, and a dash of the flavored to save calories, since the fat free half and half is 20 calories for 2 tbsp. This got me thinking, maybe I should buy these sugar free syrups and use them combined with the fat free half and half. I will have to check into the calories of those, and see what they taste like.

Also, a side note, the hoarding of items, such as coffee creamer, was inherited from my dad. There are certain items that I have to make sure I have enough of at all times, or I freak out. Creamer is one. Ketchup is another. Gladware. Baggies.
There are other things…but those are the main four.

Also, I loved hearing that there are other people who feel the same about kale. I will have to try it in soup. That will be kale’s last chance.

Okay, I am going to read my google reader, and hope that reading all of the healthy lifestyle blogs will make me want to work out and eat healthy. HA HA.

Happy Saturday, friends!!

I’m just not that into you…

So, I think kale is about to be added to the list of healthy foods that I *really* want to like, and I’ve prepared many ways, but just can’t like it.

20121129-202343.jpg

Well, let me say that I like it as kale chips, but the problem is, I like it while I am eating it, but then I burp it up all day long. I know it is gross to admit, but I am just being honest.
The only way I haven’t tried kale is “massaged” in a salad. Actually, I guess there are a lot of ways I haven’t tried it.
But, this morning I tried it in my smoothie, and those people who say you can’t taste it, are lying.
I tasted it. And I did not enjoy it.
I put spinach in my morning smoothies regularly, and you really can’t taste that. You can believe me. I promise.
I don’t love spinach many other ways besides in my smoothie – (or with hard boiled egg, bacon and blue cheese covered in hot bacon vinaigrette dressing.) And I HATE frozen spinach. HATE IT.

20121129-202550.jpg

So, for now, I am going to put kale on the list with salmon of things I try to like, but I just don’t.
Maybe some day.

Today is my brother’s birthday. He is my bff, and the father of one of my favorite human beings ever made, my niece, Ava. I went to dinner with him, my mom, and Ava. Everybody else had stuff going on – our real celebration will be tomorrow night.

20121129-202827.jpg

20121129-202839.jpg

My niece and I are soul mates. We have the same sense of humor, and I LOVE it. This is what she wrote on the card for her dad *my brother* without anybody knowing…

20121129-202926.jpg

HA HA HA HA. She cracks me up.

In other news, my husband bought Christmas decorations. I was surprised when he mentioned it, until I saw them…

20121129-202956.jpg

And this oatmeal is DELICIOUS.

TOMORROW IS FRIDAY!!!
YAY.
Have a great Thursday night. I am hoping to stay awake until 10:00 tonight. So far this week it has been barely 9:00.

so much good food up in here…

I just have to say that I have so much good food in my house right now. I made a perfect meal plan last night using all of the food we have.
Then, I stopped at my mom’s house after school and she gave us the Thanksgiving leftover mother load. So, that changed the meal plans. Thanksgiving leftovers were what we had tonight, what we are both having for lunch tomorrow, and dinner again tomorrow night. Then, hopefully we will have eaten all of it! It’s all so delicious that we didn’t want to waste it. And, I was able to freeze the chili and taco soup I had made this weekend, and save it for another week.
In addition to that Thanksgiving food, we have

these delicious peppers that i stuffed with garden vegetable cream cheese the other day…

20121126-195050.jpg

these gigantic honey crisp apples…

20121126-195133.jpg

these tomatoes that i cant wait to try drizzled in balsamic

20121126-195201.jpg

this delicious cranberry sauce that my mom made…

20121126-195230.jpg

chobani…

20121126-195307.jpg

roasted red pepper hummus (also roasted garlic)

20121126-195332.jpg

sunbutter…

20121126-195406.jpg

this, and a million other creams (they were on sale the other day) including, salted caramel mocha, s’mores, italian sweet cream, peppermint

20121126-195426.jpg

the best part of the creamers is that i got a new aerolatte to whip the cream so i have foam again! such a huge difference. and actually, it’s not an aerolatte this time, it’s ikea’s $5 version.

this amazing pumpkin butter..

20121126-195600.jpg

that tastes awesome on this..

20121126-195631.jpg

i am trying to fancy up my palate to like dark chocolate. it’s working with beers – worked up to mild IPA’s….we’ll see if it works with chocolate…

20121126-195645.jpg

this is such a guilty pleasure, because it doesn’t have the protein benefits that greek yogurt has. but it is so dang delicious. i love it in my smoothies.

20121126-195745.jpg

i haven’t tried this, but it looks and sounds delicious…

20121126-195830.jpg

Best Thanksgiving Yet.

This year was such a great Thanksgiving break. I was busy, but not overwhelmed. I got to see lots of people, eat lots of good food, and host my family at my house for the day after Thanksgiving.
My parents, my brother and his family, and my Uncle and Aunt and their kids and granddaughter. ..
I made black bean chili and taco soup. I think I’ve posted both recipes before, but if not, I will post them before the week is over. They were both a HUGE hit.
Here is my Aunt and Uncle, and my cousins, Bobby and Tracy.

20121125-131450.jpg

This is my sister-in-law, Georgi, and my niece, Brooke Lyn.

20121125-131627.jpg

Today is the first day where we have no plans, and I’ve spent it in my polka dot pajama pants, mozying around cleaning a bit, and sitting on my duff, relaxing with my dog.

20121125-131227.jpg

For lunch, I made something delicious.
I roasted some yellow potatoes with rosemary, olive oil, salt and pepper for 40 minutes at 400 degrees, and then I stuffed some small sweet peppers with garden vegetable cream cheese and roasted those for the last half of the potatoes cooking time. It was SOOO good.
Here are some photos.

Have a great Sunday!

I heart Thanksgiving.

Today was a lovely day. It was the perfect pace
It started out with a 3.7 miles walk with a good friend,
pancakes for breakfast,
a few loads of laundry

The meals were spaced far enough apart that I wasn’t miserable all day, and we had enough time to get from our first Thanksgiving meal at my in-laws to our house to let the dog, Sammy, out – then to my parents for dinner at 6:30.
I got to see a lot of my favorite people, and eat a lot of my favorite foods.
I got to laugh and gab with family.
I got to play with my niece and nephew.
I got to see my niece who lives in Georgia.
I got to play with my cousin’s daughter, Maya, who is a hoot!
(Pictures tomorrow)

It was just a really good day.
And now, at 9:20, I am on my couch, watching a DVR’d Jimmy Fallon, in my house that I am thankful for EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.
Sitting next to my husband for whom I am thankful EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.

Life’s not always easy, but I am forever grateful for my blessings.
